Media IQ to keep working despite extremist designation – editor in chief
The recent decision by the Committee for State Security (KGB) to blacklist Media IQ as an extremist group will not affect its activities, editor in chief Nadzieja Biełachvościk has told Pozirk.
The project will keep monitoring media, tracking down disinformation campaigns and analyzing the state-sponsored militarized narratives that feature hate speech and synchronized Belarusian and Russian propaganda, she said.
The KGB listed Nadzieja Biełachvościk, Alaksiej Chudanaŭ, Darja Hłuchava, Pavieł Bykoŭski, Alena Vieraščahina, Anton Sajfułajeŭ, Palina Piatkievič, Alaksiej Šuntaŭ, Ała Šarko, and Viktar Mališeŭski as members of the extremist group.
Linked to the exiled Press Club Belarus, the media literacy project has been promoting critical thinking and countering disinformation since 2018.
